Termites

Causing more than $5 billion in damage to homes across the nation each year, termites are common home invaders in the Southeastern United States, including North Carolina. The most common termites in the Raleigh-Durham area are the subterranean termite and drywood termite. The Formosan termite, which was imported to the US after World War II, has only been found in limited numbers in North Carolina. Research has indicated that the Formosan termite was introduced to our state via infested railroad ties. Common species in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill region are listed below.
Drywood termites are a group of termites that build their nests within moisture-free wood.
Subterranean termites live in under ground colonies or in moist secluded areas above ground that can contain up to 2 million members.
