The Life and Times of the Bedbug

Contrary to what many people believe, bedbugs don’t only live in beds and the bed bug removal is not only centered on the bed. However, most associate these bugs with beds and mattresses because this is their primary location for feeding.

The bedbug feeds on human blood, acquired through one of two tubes that it inserts into its sleeping host. With one tube it injects its own saliva for the purpose of numbing the host to the irritation of the bite. With the other tube, it draws in the blood it needs to survive.

Bedbugs live and breed anywhere and everywhere in a home but prefer cracks, crevices, and dark hiding places during the day. The bed bug control process targets all of these areas and may require several visits from our bedbug control specialists.

Permanent bedbug elimination requires a bed bug treatment as persistent as these pests

One of the most important steps in bedbug treatment is a mattress encasement that traps bed bugs so they cannot get out to feed.

Though sprays are necessary, the encasement is the most effective bed bug killer of pests living hiding within the bed that can’t be treated with chemicals.

These encasements are so critical to the process of bedbug removal that we will not even attempt to conduct a treatment without a bedbug encasement.

In addition to trapping bedbugs so that they cannot come out to feed, the bed bug encasement also prevents other bedbugs from crawling in. Once on, the encasement must remain on the mattress for at least 18 months. The goal is to trap them, starve them, and put an end to the population.

The next step in bed bug treatment is to spray the various areas of the room including but not limited to bed frames, pictures, walls, outlets, and base boards.

The next critical step in bed bug treatment is to remove all bedding, clothing, throw rugs and draperies and wash them at a high temperature setting to kill any lingering bedbugs.
